Last year changes in healthcare reimbursement from insurance providers and Medicare (CMS) have greatly impacted the bottom line. Hospital Acquired Infections, specifically Catheter Related Bloodstream Infections may no longer be reimbursed.
Greater than 80,000 catheter related bloodstream infections occur on an annual basis in the U.S. The majority of these infections are associated with central venous catheters. The case fatality rate for Catheter Associated Bacteremias is more than 20% (10,000/50,000 cases) and the attributable mortality is 35%.
The primary sources for most pathogens causing BSI are the catheter insertion site or the junction of the catheter hub and needleless access port. Contamination may result from the patient’s own flora or from healthcare workers’ hands during insertion and manipulation. Maximus’ BSI Improvement Program is designed to help patient care by reducing the incidence of catheter related BSI.
The CRBSI Process Improvement Program is an evidence based program utilizing data from your facility to determine best practices and best products to assist in the reduction of CRBSIs.

Your Maximus Process Improvement Consultant will meet with your facility’s key clinicians and staff to establish program guidelines. We provide all written documentation, education, and onsite assistance necessary to ensure a successful program.
